Once again is was a good season and we thank the Ale House for their loyal sponsorship. Next year will be a year of decisions for the Ale House Softball team. We appreciate the effort that the old Balls & Strikes players added and we wish everyone a great off season. We especially thank all the fans that came out night after night to cheers us on.
(Ale House vs. Hurley's - 8/16/99 - Round Two -
PLAYOFFS)
Game two was a different game. The
game was intense and tight. The Ale House again went up early, but
Hurley's kept digging back. With the score 8-4 in the bottom of the
seventh and the Ale House's season on the brink, the bats came alive and
the intensity built. One run in, two then three runs in. The
score was now 8-7, two out, a man on first with Bill Saunders up and Keith
Lettrick on deck. Probably the best one-two combo in the
league. Feelings were good as the Ale House came back in dramatic
fashion against the Ale House II. Saunders missed the pitch by a
fraction, and popped to second, game over. The final score was in favor of
Hurley 8-7. Hurley's wins the best of three series 2-0. Good
luck Hurley's.
(Ale House vs. Hurley's - 8/12/99 - Round Two -
PLAYOFFS)
The Ale House jumped out to a 3-0 lead in
the top of the first. Hurley's came back with two. The Ale
House added two in the top of the second, and Hurley' added one to make
the score 5-3. It looked like an offensive game for both
teams. In the bottom of the third Hurley's scored six runs to take
the lead as Paul LaForest went in for Sean O'Bryan as the Ale House
pitcher. Hurley's added to the lead until they were up by six.
The Ale House couldn't come back. The final score was in favor of
Hurley 16-9. Hurley's leads the best of three series 1-0.
(Ale House vs. Ale House II - 8/999 - Round One -
PLAYOFFS)
Nothing short of a spectacular game.
The Ale House jumped out to a 8-0 lead on key hitting and a three run
homer by Keith Lettrick. The Ale House then went into a drought as
the Ale House II kept adding runs until the score was tie. Scott
Brown hit a solo home run in the fifth to give the Ale House a 9-8 lead,
but the Ale House II came right back. With the score 12-9 in the top
of the seventh, and things looking glum, the Ale House exploded for seven
runs against a solid Ale House II squad. Sean O'Bryan, who had a
rough night, focused and completed the game for the win. Between the teams
and players on the field, it represented the last three years of the Troy
City-County league champions (Balls & Strikes - 1996, Ale House II -
1997 & Ale House - 1998). The final score was 16-12. The
Ale House wins the best of three series 2-1.
(Ale House vs. Ale House II - 8/599 - Round One -
PLAYOFFS)
Game two was a total reverse of game
one. Ale House II kicked our ass. Error after error lead to a
sloppy game and a big loss. The final score was 19-7 in favor of Ale
House II. The best of three series is tied at 1-1.
(Ale House vs. Ale House II - 8/399 - Round One -
PLAYOFFS)
The Ale House II jumped out to a 2-0 lead
early and for the first five innings, that's where things stood. The
Ale House finally started to put things together, scoring three in the
fifth, five in the sixth and five in the top of the seventh. Sean
O'Bryan pitch a solid game with Paul Laforest taking the save in the
seventh. Some excellent defensive plays by Scott Brown, Charlie
Slater and David Soulier helped to keep any Ale House II rallies from
developing. The final score was 13-4. We all know the Ale
House II will put up a solid fight in the next game. The Ale House
leads the best of three series 1-0.
(Ale House vs. Hurley's - 7/28/99 - End of regular
season)
With many Ale House players absent and many players out of
position, the Ale House was out matched. Hurley's took the lead and
never gave it up as they kept adding to their run total as the game went
on. The final score was 11-5 in favor of Hurley's. Time to
re-focus for the playoffs.
(Ale House vs. Creative Advantage - 7/27/99)
The Ale House jumped out to a 5-0 lead on 7/6/99 when the game was postponed
because of rain. The continuation was ho-hum. Bill Saunders
went deep twice and Shane Quackenbush hit a solo home run. Sean
O'Bryan captured the win and Paul Laforest took the save. The final
score was 12-2.
(Ale House vs. In the Rough - 7/23/99)
It was hot. It was exciting. It
was close. It was ugly. The Ale House started without many
regulars and without both starting pitchers. Scott Brown, our
regular second baseman, took the mound. Considering, Scott did
well. In the Rough jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first,
but the Ale House came back to make the score 6-2. In the Rough kept
adding, taking advantage of the pitcher. The score was 9-7 in favor
of In the Rough in the bottom of the sixth. They added another five
in the seventh. The Ale House could have laid downed, but with two
out, down three, men on first and second, Bill Saunders did the
mathematically impossible. He hit a towering fly to deep center,
only to have the ball bounce straight down off the top of the 12 foot
center field fence and back into fair territory for a ground ruled
double. Two scored and the Ale House was within one of a tie.
Keith Lettrick walks and John Anderson grounds hard
to the shortstop for the last out. Wow! The final score was
14-13 in favor of In the Rough.
(Ale House vs. Galley & Grog - 7/19/99)
With storm warnings abound, the weather cooperated and the game
was played. Jack Brock, who at one point in the past was 11-1 with
the Ale House, was called up to pitch. The first inning was rough,
as the Galley and Grog took the lead, but the Ale house came back in the
third to go up 3-2. The Galley then rallied again for four runs
going up 7-3. The Ale House then broke out and scored nine. In
the seventh the Galley challenged, but poor decisions cost them runners on
the bases. The final score was 11-8.
(Ale House vs. New Country Sharks -
7/16/99)
It was a hot, humid and balmy night at the
fields. Both offenses struggled early, and unlike the last meeting
where the Ale House jumped out on top, the Sharks grabbed an early lead
and never looked back. Sean O'Bryan pitched hard, but couldn't bring
in the win. Paul LaForest came in to try and bring the game within
reach. The Ale House, down seven runs at one point, fought back, but
came up short. The final score was 12-10 in favor of the New Country
Sharks.
(Ale House vs. Sidelines - 7/8/99)
The Ale House busted out big. Everyone
had a hit and the defense was solid. Although the game was lethargic,
it was a positive sign to see the Ale House offense kick in. Bill
Saunders hit a grand slam home run and Paul LaForest pitched a strong
outing. Scott Brown made two excellent plays to record two outs in
the last inning for Sidelines. The final score was 21-2.
(Ale House vs. Creative Advantage - 7/6/99)
The Ale House jumped out to a 5-0 lead when the game was postponed
because of rain. This game will be re-scheduled and completed at a
later date.
(Ale House vs. AGS/Trump (Non-League) - 6/30/99)
This was a non-league game. The final score was 12-9 in favor of
AGS/Trump.
(Ale House vs. Hurley's - 6/28/99)
Rain Out!
(Ale House vs. ProTech - 6/24/99)
A game without any real emotion or excitement. If both teams
produced 10 hits between them, it was a lot. ProTech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the
first inning. The Ale House added one in the second inning to make the score 2-1.
It basically stayed a 2-1 game in a lifeless effort by both squads. In the
fifth, the Ale House walked in four runs for ProTech with only the lead off runner getting
a hit. You can't win ball games scoring one run. Paul LaForest took the loss
for the Ale House. The final score was 6-1 in favor of ProTech.
(Ale House vs. Villa Valenti's Pub - 6/22/99)
A competitive and intense game. Valenti's jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
first inning. The Ale House took a 3-1 lead in the third. Valenti's came right
back in the forth and took the lead back 5-3. The Ale House then scored three runs
in the sixth to make it 6-5. Valenti's again jumped right back, scored three runs,
took advantage of a couple errors and took the lead 8-6. In the bottom of the
seventh, the Ale House wouldn't lay down. The Ale House scored one run and had a man on
first and third with two outs. Bang, bang, throw to first on a ball back to the
pitcher. Game over. The final score was 8-7 in favor of Valenti's Pub.
(Ale House vs. New Country Sharks - 6/18/99)
The Ale House jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held on
from there. Against good pitching, the offense was balanced and the defense solid.
John Anderson went deep in the forth and Sean O'Bryan pitched for the win.
Paul LaForest added another save. The final score was 11-4.
(Ale House vs. Alumni Grill
- 6/14/99)
The Ale House offense started out slow, scoring only three runs through five
innings. The Alumni Grill took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring three
runs. The Ale House then rose to the occasion and scored five runs in the top of the
sixth. Sean O'Bryan pitched for the win while Paul LaForest took the save. The
final score was 8-4.
(Ale House vs. Ale House II - 6/10/99)
The Ale House got their butts kicked. Nothing was working. The
defense was sloppy and the offense never got on track. Ale House II scored 13 runs
in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the fifteen run rule. The final score was 21-6
in favor of Ale House II.
(Ale House vs. Galley & Grog - 6/8/99)
The Ale House busted out early and used their bats well. Bill
Saunders, Keith Lettrick and John Anderson homered for the Ale House. Paul LaForest
took a no-hitter into the forth inning and took the win. Sean O'Bryan came in for
the save in the fifth inning. The final score was 16-1.
(Ale House vs. Sidelines - 6/4/99)
The Ale House hadn't played in eight days. The bats were stale and
the defense was suspect at times. Sidelines jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of
the first, but the Ale House came right back with 5 runs. Although the Ale House
never trailed after the first, Sidelines kept the game interesting, coming within one run
in the sixth. Bill Saunders hit a towering home run to center and Paul LaForest
pitched for the win. The final score was 13-9.
(Ale House vs. ProTech - 5/26/99)
Two rivals came together for a sound, solid and competitive game.
ProTech jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Bill Saunders came back in the fourth with a two run
homer. ProTech jumped right back with a three run homer in the bottom of the
inning. In the top of the sixth ProTech was up 7-2. The Ale House loaded the
bases when Bill Saunders hit a towering fly to center. A catch at the fence moves
the runners up. Keith Lettrick then hit a three run blast to make the score 7-6.
In the bottom of the inning Scott Paul homered for ProTech. The Ale House
failed in an attempted to tie the score in the seventh. There were some good
defensive plays and a few calls might have figured into a different outcome. The
final score was 8-6 in favor of ProTech.
(Ale House vs. In the Rough - 5/24/99)
The Ale House looked to start with only eight players, when two rolled in
as the game started. The Ale House jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and built
from there. The wind was blowing and rain threaten. Defense was solid, Sean
O'Bryan pitched the first five innings with Paul LaForest getting the save. The
final score was 11-2.
(Ale House vs. Hurley's - 5/21/99)
The Ale House jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first
inning on six consecutive base hits. Hurley's pressed in most ever inning, but the
Ale House fundamentals were solid and Sean O'Bryan pitched a strong game. Although
the Ale House produced the most runs in a game this season, and everyone contributed, the
offense still is not hitting on all cylinders. The final score was 14-6.
(Ale House vs. Creative Advantage - 5/18/99)
A relaitively solid game for the Ale House, although the bats are yet to
come to life. The Ale House jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Slowly the Ale House built the lead, added atleast a run in almost every inning.
Bill Saunders hit a three run homer and Sean O'Bryan took the win. The final score
was 11-4.
(Ale House vs. AGS/Trump (Non-League) - 5/14/99)
This was a non-league game. The final score was 14-4 in favor of
AGS/Trump.
(Ale House vs. Ale House II - 5/11/99)
Ale House II jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first on a
three run homer. Slowly, the Ale House II added runs until the score was 11-1.
The Ale House bats stayed quiet until the bottom of the sixth when they rallied for
six runs. Paul LaForest started the game at pitcher with Sean O'Bryan coming in for
relief. The Ale House engine is yet to burn on all cylinders. The final score
was 11-7 in favor of Ale House II.
(Ale House vs. Alumni Grill
- 5/5/99)
The first inning started out strong as the Ale House jumped out to a 6-0 lead on
home runs by Pete Charbonough and Sean O'Bryan. After that, little excitement
occurred. The bats were flat but the defense was relatively crisp. Paul
LaFleur pitched the win for the Ale House. The final score was 8-5.
(Ale House vs. Villa Valenti's Pub - 5/3/99 - Season Opener)
The competitiveness of the league has improved over last year. The game was intense
and competitive from the start. The bats were a little rusty and Sean O'Bryan is
working into a pitching grove. The final score was 8-6 in favor of Villa Valenti's
Pub.
